Farms & Allotments
Despite being an Inner London Borough it’s still possible to find a variety of agricultural and horticultural activities in Tower Hamlets. In some cases these are small-scale private initiatives like the public herb bed managed by local residents in Bethnal Green’s Wilmot Street – pop along if you want some really fresh ingredients.
If you have lots of energy why not consider taking on an allotment. This is a great way to keep fit, enjoy the fresh air, produce your own fruit and veg (much more delicious than buying from the supermarket) and meeting up with like-minded fellow-growers. There are lots of opportunities – find an allotment in Tower Hamlets
Like the growers of the Reeves Road Allotment Society (more famously known as Arthur Fowler’s Walford allotment in EastEnders) you can enjoy your own fresh green beans
and what better taste is there than carrots drawn directly from the soil?
There are no less than three urban farms within the Tower Hamlets boundary – not so much places to grow your own but more to have look and learn about the animals, purchase produce from farm shops and even to get active on horseback.
The Mudchute Urban Farm provides opportunities for all the above
