Footpaths
There’s lots of places to walk in Tower Hamlets which are both interesting and safe. You can get off the roads by following designated footpaths which will give you a totally different view of the borough.
It’s a great way of taking in some of the iconic views of the borough with the splendour of the River Thames as a backdrop.
This also enables you to use Tower Hamlets as a base for exploring further afield, for example from Island Gardens to Embankment
But the Thames is not the only waterway in this part of London – the canal network also provides a great opportunity to get away and relax, with a great circular route from the Limehouse Basin which takes in parts of the Hertford Union Canal, the Limehouse Cut, Regent’s Canal and the River Lee.
There is a series of guides to short walks covering different parts of the borough. These are designed to take in local sites and facilities and the guides even indicate the position of doctors surgeries in case the exertion of the walk becomes too much!
